Welcome

Welcome! This site is your source for information regarding the PEI Science Fair for the 2011-2012 school year. It will contain all of the documents and notices regarding the Fair.

The provincial science fair for the 2011-2012 school year will take place on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at the Chi-Wan Young Canada Games sports centre on the UPEI campus (Building #1 on the UPEI campus map).

AGAIN this year for high school students only, there will be a PEI High School Science Fair on Monday December 12, 2012 held at UPEI. The format for the fair in December is the same as the regular provincial fair in April. High school students can register by having their science teacher email the student's name and project title to Fair Coordinator Bill Whelan (wwhelan@upei.ca) by December 5, 2012.

Each year, PEI sends projects to the Canada Wide Science Fair.  These students have a chance to compete with the brightest young science students in Canada.  This year 5 projects will compete at the national competition held right here in Charlottetown, PEI.  The travel and accomodation are mostly sponsored by the PEI Science Fair, and the events at the CWSF beyond the science fair are fantastic!   With a little innovation, hard work, and good luck, you could be one of the people representing PEI!

The pages on this site give details on the fair for teachers and students, as well as contact information for the PEISF organizing committee.

On-Line Registration

We will examine moving to the new system in the coming year. The registration deadline is Tuesday, March 20, 2012.

Eastern School District (ESD) Only: Schools in the ESD are reminded that they are to use this site to register projects for the ESD Regional Science Fair to be held on Thursday, March 8, 2012. The registration deadline for the ESD Science Regional Fair is Friday, February 24, 2012.

Day of the fair!!!

The event will begin with setup of student projects.  Students should arrive between 7:30-8:30 for setup.  Free parking is provided at the CARI Complex and MacLauchlan Arena Parking lot, behind the Arena (see UPEI Campus Map).

Please enter the UPEI Gym from the Concourse of the CARI Complex. Judging will begin shortly after 9:00.  During the morning, only students, chaperones, and judges will be allowed into the hall.  Students should expect to have their projects examined by 3 different judges, most of whom are research scientists, engineers and science students.

In addition to the competition judges, there will be specialty prize judges visiting select projects throughout the day.  there are many special prizes donated from local businesses, government, and community groups, and these judges will be looking for projects that they wish to reward with prize money and stuff.

There will be a lunch break at noon, where Pizza is served for the students and volunteers.  In the afternoon, students will participate in hands-on science experiments run by UPEI/AVC faculty and research students.

Also throughout the day, volunteers from the Let's Talk Science Program will be conducting experiments in the Exhibit Hall.  Participants can drop by at their leisure and try their hand at an experiment.  There will also be the Science Fair Pin Design Competition. Everyone is invited to participate!  Are you ready to be the best designer in PEI?

Parents and friends can come to visit the projects between 2-4 pm. Final awards presentations are scheduled for 4 pm.  We look forward to seeing you!!!
